Why Everyone Is Talking About Emsculpt

Image
There's a new body contouring device on the block: Emsculpt. Here's what it does and what it's like to get sculpted. I’ll be honest: When I read about revenge bodies (hello, Khloe Kardashian), I often wonder whom the revenge is actually on? I mean, all that sweating and HIITing and eating fish all day long and permanently breaking up with pasta—are you really punishing your ex or yourself? Don’t get me wrong—there’s no denying that the results of all of that self-flagulation are pretty impressive. But do you really have to torture yourself to get those sculpted, toned abs and perky backside? Apparently not. Enter a new non-invasive body sculpting device called Emsculpt, which I heard about from a friend who (surprise!) just emerged from a messy divorce and wanted to get back the taut tummy she hadn’t seen since before having kids… and being single. Cleared by the FDA in late 2018, this new body contouring treatment uses high-intensity focused electromagnetic energy to

Aesthetics 101 (Part 6): Introduction to Body Contouring

Body Contouring - An Introduction This is part 6 of our Aesthetics 101 series. Body contouring is a general term that refers to both surgical and nonsurgical procedures that are specially designed to remove or reduce stubborn pockets of fat to contour different areas of your body. There are many ways to tackle body contouring when diet and exercise don’t seem to work on stubborn, small areas of fat. Nonsurgical body contouring can also be called nonsurgical fat reduction. There are a number of nonsurgical body contouring treatments available; Liposonix, Lipocel, Sculpsure, Vanquish, i-Lipo, Exilis Ultra, CoolSculpting, Clatuu, CoolTech and the list goes on.. Body sculpting, on the other hand, generally refers to a wide range of cosmetic plastic surgery procedures designed to reshape and enhance the appearance of your body and remove fat. In many cases, the terms body sculpting and body contouring are used interchangeably. What are available on the market today? Noninvasive

Who Should You Really Trust for Fillers and Botox?

Image
(NewBeauty.com) - In this, our inaugural Controversy column—the kickoff to a compelling series aimed at untangling hot-button issues in aesthetic medicine—we’ll be unpacking an ongoing debate, one embroiling providers of every kind and affecting millions of patients: who to trust with fillers and toxins. Much of the discord between leaders in the field springs not from ego or sensationalism, we should note, but a passionate, evidence-based desire to deliver results that are beautiful, bespoke, and above all, safe. Our experts have unique viewpoints and experiences—each worthy of respect and consideration. Our goal is to present all sides in hopes of carefully informing your beauty decisions. The International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS) recorded more than 8.5 million injectable procedures worldwide in 2017. (Injectables as a category encompass both muscle-weakening botulinum toxins and various kinds of fillers used to restore youthful volume and contours.) In the

You’re So Vein: The Best Ways To Treat And Prevent Varicose and Spider Veins

Carly Simon may have been talking about a different kind of vanity. But, if you’re part of the 50 percent of adults living with a leg vein disorder, The AEDITION is here with the best way to treat and prevent varicose and spider veins. While summer is typically the time to enjoy shorts and higher hemlines, not everyone welcomes the opportunity to show some leg. For those dealing with inflamed varicose veins and spider veins, the struggle of slipping into your beach best can be all too real. And it’s not just about veinity — ahem, vanity. The tracks of purple-blue squiggles dotting the gams can be painful, too. “Leg vein disease impacting blood vessels is a very common condition that affects up to 50 percent of all adults,” says Washington Square Dermatology’s Samer Jaber, MD. Varicose and spider veins form when regular blood flow is interrupted, causing blood to pool in the veins. While it isn’t always easy to control the onset of varicose or spider veins, there are plenty of wa

Finding the Right Plastic Surgeon, Dermatologist, or Cosmetic Dentist

When considering a cosmetic procedure, it is so important to find the right doctor for you. When considering a cosmetic procedure, it is so important to find the right doctor for you. This is a procedure that can last you a lifetime, and you want to be completely confident in the doctor you choose to work with. Throughout the entire research process, you should maintain a healthy dose of skepticism as you vet prospective doctors. As the number of people choosing plastic surgery procedures has increased over the years, unfortunately so has the number of unqualified physicians claiming to be experts in the aesthetics procedure industry. Follow the seven steps below to ensure you are selecting the right doctor for your procedure. 1. Confirm credentials For a plastic surgeon, a board certification is critical. Unknown to most, in the United States, state medical boards do not require the surgeon to be specifically trained in the surgical procedure he or she offers. In other words,

Plastic Surgery Perfection vs. Proportion: How To Achieve The Ideal Look For You

Image
When it comes to cosmetic procedures, it’s proportion — not perfection — that will ensure you look your best. Here, plastic surgeons explain why the key to a “perfect” face is all about balancing your features. The Duchess of Cambridge’s nose. Penélope Cruz’s lips. Angelina Jolie’s cheekbones. Ask any plastic surgeon and, chances are, they've encountered any number of patients entering their office with pictures of those celebrity facial features. It’s certainly not surprising that people going in for cosmetic surgery would ask that the body part in question be made to look like that of a certain Hollywood star deemed “perfect.” But any surgeon worth his or her weight in BOTOX® will tell you that proportion — not perfection — is the secret to looking your best. “In our social media culture, we definitely see patients coming in requesting this person’s nose and that person’s eyes. But I tell them that I’ll make you the best you," says Philadelphia facial plastic surgeon Jason

Hormone Replacement Therapy for Women: Unpacking an On-going Debate 2019

Image
Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) for women has been a topic of much debate in recent decades. This is due largely to the fact that the Women’s Health Initiative (WHI) study in 2002 was halted prematurely because of a reported increase in the instance of breast cancer in women participating in the hormone replacement arm of the study. Thereafter, thousands of women were taken off or stopped taking HRT unnecessarily, despite the fact that many studies have debunked the WHI conclusions. The media has been slow to report the more recent findings, which indicate that not only is HRT not an identifiable causative agent of breast cancer, but that when begun early, hormone therapy actually has a collective mortality risk reduction of 40%. [1] HRT for women has indeed developed a bad reputation, but any fears surrounding the treatment are unfounded. Here, we examine the relationship among HRT and breast cancer, colon cancer, cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, and brain health to dispe
