Who Should You Really Trust for Fillers and Botox?

Image
(NewBeauty.com) - In this, our inaugural Controversy column—the kickoff to a compelling series aimed at untangling hot-button issues in aesthetic medicine—we’ll be unpacking an ongoing debate, one embroiling providers of every kind and affecting millions of patients: who to trust with fillers and toxins. Much of the discord between leaders in the field springs not from ego or sensationalism, we should note, but a passionate, evidence-based desire to deliver results that are beautiful, bespoke, and above all, safe. Our experts have unique viewpoints and experiences—each worthy of respect and consideration. Our goal is to present all sides in hopes of carefully informing your beauty decisions. The International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS) recorded more than 8.5 million injectable procedures worldwide in 2017. (Injectables as a category encompass both muscle-weakening botulinum toxins and various kinds of fillers used to restore youthful volume and contours.) In the ...

8 Non-Invasive Cosmetic Treatments That Save You Time

Image
Sick of your lengthy beauty regimen? More and more women are ditching their typical routine and turning to non-invasive cosmetic treatments in efforts to limit the time they spend getting ready every morning. ‘Dangerous’ YouTube videos that show you how to inject fillers and Botox into your own face

(TheSun.co.uk) - DOCTORS have slammed "deadly" YouTube videos that show how to inject cosmetic fillers and Botox into your own face. The online clips could encourage people to inject dermal fillers at home, rather than paying the average £200 to £500 cost at a clinic. But now experts have called for the videos to be removed, saying viewers risk infection, blood poisoning and even death if they get it wrong. Leading UK surgeon Dr Bashar Bizrah, founder of the Beyond Med Centre clinic in London, says viewers need to exercise extreme caution. He warned: “YouTube videos showing so-called ‘DIY’ dermal filler methods are extremely dangerous. “By attempting to follow them you're risking infection. “If you accidentally inject into a blood vessel, you risk the death of tissue and permanent scarring. “In rare circumstances, it could even lead to blood poisoning and death. “I would plead that no one ever administers their own filler. “Leave it to a trusted medic...

Image
(The Sun) - SuperDrug has become the first health and beauty retail chain to offer Botox in UK store. But experts have warned the anti-ageing injects can cause "serious infection or paralysis" in some cases. The health and beauty retailer today announced the launch of its new Skin Renew Service, which offers customers anti-wrinkle and rejuvenation treatments including Botox and dermal fillers. Superdrug will only be offering the service to those over 25 who have booked through their customer care line, not to people who walk in from the high street. It will cost £99 and only be available in selected stores. Caris Newson, head of Health and Wellbeing at Superdrug, said: "We know from our research among 10,000 customers that feeling confident about how you look is linked to a person’s wellbeing, and that’s different for all of us. "For some it might mean having their eyebrows threaded or getting their nails done, for others taking new vitamins or getting fitter, o...
