Plastic Surgery Perfection vs. Proportion: How To Achieve The Ideal Look For You

Image
When it comes to cosmetic procedures, it’s proportion — not perfection — that will ensure you look your best. Here, plastic surgeons explain why the key to a “perfect” face is all about balancing your features. The Duchess of Cambridge’s nose. Penélope Cruz’s lips. Angelina Jolie’s cheekbones. Ask any plastic surgeon and, chances are, they've encountered any number of patients entering their office with pictures of those celebrity facial features. It’s certainly not surprising that people going in for cosmetic surgery would ask that the body part in question be made to look like that of a certain Hollywood star deemed “perfect.” But any surgeon worth his or her weight in BOTOX® will tell you that proportion — not perfection — is the secret to looking your best. “In our social media culture, we definitely see patients coming in requesting this person’s nose and that person’s eyes. But I tell them that I’ll make you the best you," says Philadelphia facial plastic surgeon Jason ...

More Men Undergo Plastic Surgery as the Daddy-Do-Over Trend Rises in Popularity

Image
Just as women can turn to a suite of procedures, known as the "Mommy Makeover," more men are embracing their own set of treatments, the "Daddy-Do-Over," to boost their confidence and improve their physical appearance. A new report from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons reveals that more than 1.3 million cosmetic procedures were performed on men last year alone, representing a 29 percent increase since 2000. Image credit: PlasticSurgery.org Similar to a Mommy Makeover, the "Daddy-Do-Over" consists of surgical and non-surgical body contouring and facial procedures that are typically performed in a single surgery. Due to this rising trend, plastic surgery is becoming a common Father's Day request as more men consider a surgical assist to enhance their physique and fend off the "dad bod" for a while longer. "Obviously, men don't go through the same physical changes that women experience during pregnancy and post-pregna...

First liposuction death in Singapore: Doctor struck off register, case referred for probe

Image
(THE STRAITS TIMES SINGAPORE) - The doctor involved in the liposuction death of real estate firm boss Franklin Heng in 2009 has been struck off by the Court of Three Judges. Image credit via Straitstimes.com In its decision, the court warned this would be the presumptive penalty for doctors displaying serious misconduct or dishonest behaviour, unless there were exceptional circumstances. A second doctor, who assisted Dr Wong Meng Hang in the procedure, was suspended for 18 months instead of the original six months, in a definitive judgment where the court laid a sentencing framework in disciplinary cases for dealing with professional misconduct by doctors that results in harm to patients. The court, in a rare move, also ordered the case be reported to the Public Prosecutor so that Dr Wong and Dr Zhu Xiu Chun can be investigated for any relevant criminal offences that may have been committed, including that of causing death by a rash or negligent act. "While we express no vie...

French PIP breast implant scandal: an ongoing global health scandal

Image
(FRANCE 24) - It’s been eight years since the French authorities first drew attention to a French company selling faulty, and potentially dangerous, breast implants. The implants, manufactured by French company Poly Implant Prothèse (PIP), were made with cheap, unapproved silicone designed for use in mattresses. Hundreds of thousands of women all over the world were affected – and all are still waiting for compensation. In 2010, the French medicine and healthcare watchdog Afssaps withdrew the PIP implants from the market, after surgeons reported a higher-than-usual rate of rupture. The same day, Poly Implant Prothèse was placed into compulsory liquidation. What followed was a drawn-out health scandal that took years to skewer those responsible. Jean-Claude Mas, the founder of PIP was only condemned for fraud six years later. He launched an appeal, which was eventually rejected by France’s highest court in September this year, and he will be serving a sentence of four years in jail a...

Image
(TheSun.co.uk) - CONJOINED twins Pin and Pan’s bond is so strong that they don’t want to be separated – even if it proved medically possible. The seven-year-old sisters, from Thailand, were born with their own heads, torsos, and arms but are connected at the waist. The duo share a pair of legs, with Pin having control of one and Pan controlling the other, and have learned to walk, dress, eat – and, incredibly, even ride a tricycle – as one. The twins live in Nakhon Sawan, around 250km north of Bangkok, Thailand, with their grandparents – who describe them as “normal, happy” children. Image source: www.thesun.co.uk
