Best Natural AntiHistamines

1. Vitamin C
Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory, making it a possible treatment for allergies.

2. Butterbur
Butterbur has antihistamine effects and is commonly used to treat migraines and hay fever, also known as allergic rhinitis. However, raw butterbur extracts contain alkaloids that can cause liver damage and cancer. Butterbur extract can also cause allergic reactions in people with sensitivities to ragweed, chrysanthemums, marigolds, and daisies.

3. Bromelain
Bromelain is a good natural antihistamine for allergies. It is also popular remedy for swelling or inflammation, especially for sinuses and following injury or surgery. It can reduce allergic sensitivity and allergic airway disease due to its anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic properties. It is commonly found in pineapples, however the fruit itself has a lot of histamine, so it is better to take Bromelain supplements instead.

4. Probiotics
Probiotics may help in preventing and managing allergies and sinus congestion. Probiotics are good bacteria that help off harmful bacteria. This helps the body maintain a healthful balance of gut bacteria. It may boost a person’s immune system, which can help the body fight off allergies.

5. Quercetin
Quercetin contains anti-inflammatory properties which may relieve allergy symptoms. This study published in Molecules in 2016, for example, found that quercetin could be effective for treating the anaphylactic (allergic) reaction in someone with peanut allergies. A similar study from 2006 concluded that quercetin was a “safe, natural therapy that may be used as primary therapy or in conjunction with conventional methods” for blocking allergies.

It’s possible that quercetin has the same anti-allergy effect in humans, although more research needs to be done. Quercetin is a good natural antihistamine for itching, however the effects won't be immediate. For fast relief of itchy skin, a mix of aloe vera, calendula and tea tree oil applied topically may have better effects. It may also be a good natural anti-histamine for hives.

6. Ginger
Ginger is not only an antihistamine but is also good for the immune system. Shave off a small piece of ginger and put it in a cup of hot water for 5 minutes. Drink said water to enjoy its effects. Ginger is also a natural anti-histamine for runny nose.

7. Watercress
A potent anti-histamine that can easily be used in salads or sautéed. It can decrease the release of histamine from mast cells.

8. Turmeric
A spice that can prevent the release of histamine from mast cells and inhibit anaphylactic reactions.

Ok, this is an unsolicited review. My wife and I are in our sixties and both still work full time. My wife works from home at a desk and I drive a commercial truck during at night. I'm a health nut and take a lot of supplements. I'm also a Marine of 12 years, so don't give thought to pain as my wife. My wife does take care of herself but still deals with the aches and pains of aging. Anyway, we been using this product for about 2 months now. We started taking 1 capsule the first week to make sure we didn't have any allergic reaction/nothing happened. We didn't notice any benefits during this time either. The second week we took two capsules and again no allergic reaction but my wife said she seemed to be sleeping deeper and getting up later. Myself, I didn't really notice anything but I'm pretty regimented and do not notice anything until it really hits me. On the third week we started taking the recommended dosage of three capsules posted on the bottle. After a few days I noticed I also was sleeping more soundly. I work nights so I was actually staying asleep longer and waking up more refreshed. My wife also noticed that again she was sleeping more soundly and not getting up in the middle of the night as she use too. She also noticed that her aches and pains are no longer there when she moves around. Both of us also agree that we seem to be able to focus more clearly at work and are calmer. So to this day we believe that this supplement is benefiting us and have signed up for regular shipments.

I have a highly acidic stomach. The acid is terrible. I am on soooo much medication for other ailments and I’m trying to find natural remedies. Someone suggested to try ginger...I did and it works. My stomach and esophagus doesn’t burn nor hurt and the horrible burping/hiccups are gone. Try it because if you’re trying to wean yourself off all of your pills...try the ginger. It works or at least it does for me.

3. Quercetin - Natural Factors Bioactive Quercetin

Natural Factors Bioactive Quercetin EMIQ claims to have 40 times better absorption than ordinary quercetin. Other quercetin supplements here use bromelain to boost bioavailability, but this supplement uses “EMIQ”, a proprietary formula made from “Enzymatically Modified IsoQuercetin”.

Dosage of quercetin is somewhat low (as compared to other brands) in each capsule. However, Natural Factors claims the quercetin is more bioavailable, which means your body gets a strong dose regardless. Each capsule contains 167 mg of EMIQ and 50 mg of vitamin C. Natural Factors claims their formula will provide year-round protection while supporting a healthy inflammatory response and maintaining good sinus and upper respiratory function.

I purchased the Solgar Citrus Bioflavonoid Complex to help my elderly skin. To my surprise, it actually made a noticeable difference. For months my nose had been dripping a lot every morning. After a few days of taking this supplement, the sniffles totally cleared up. But it wasn't until I stopped taking them (due to their size) that I knew they worked, because the sniffles came right back. Also, my skin is very vulnerable to the slightest scratch (as in cats and collisions), and without the Solgar my wounds took longer to heal than usual.
