Ivermectin and Fenbendazole in the Treatment of Psoriasis? A Case Series of 13 Patients (2025)

Abstract

Psoriasis is a chronic autoimmune condition affecting approximately 7.5 million individuals in the United States, with significant economic, physical, and psychological burdens. This case series reports on 13 patients who experienced notable improvements in psoriasis symptoms following treatment with ivermectin and/or fenbendazole, antiparasitic agents repurposed for this indication. Cases were derived from self-reported testimonials shared on social media platforms. Treatment durations ranged from 3 days to 3 months, with dosages varying between 6 mg ivermectin twice daily and combinations with fenbendazole. Rapid resolution of skin lesions was observed in most cases, with some achieving near-complete clearance. While these anecdotal reports suggest potential therapeutic efficacy, controlled clinical trials are warranted to validate these findings and elucidate underlying mechanisms.

Ivermectin and Fenbendazole in the Treatment of Psoriasis

Introduction

Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory disorder characterized by hyperproliferation of keratinocytes, resulting in erythematous, scaly plaques that may cause pruritus and pain. Beyond cutaneous manifestations, it is associated with systemic comorbidities including psoriatic arthritis, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, asthma, and depression. The prevalence in the United States is estimated at 7.5 million individuals, imposing an annual economic burden of nearly $112 billion as of 2013. Emotional distress is profound, with depression affecting up to 50% of patients. Although primarily an inflammatory condition, secondary infections may arise from excoriation of affected areas.

Traditional therapies include topical agents, phototherapy, and systemic immunosuppressants; however, these often yield incomplete responses or adverse effects. Repurposing antiparasitic drugs such as ivermectin (a macrocyclic lactone) and fenbendazole (a benzimidazole) has garnered interest due to their immunomodulatory properties. This case series compiles 13 self-reported instances of psoriasis improvement following ivermectin and/or fenbendazole use, highlighting a potential novel therapeutic avenue.

Methods

Cases were retrospectively collected from publicly available testimonials on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), spanning March to September 2025. Inclusion criteria encompassed self-reported psoriasis diagnoses with descriptions of symptom resolution post-treatment. No formal patient consent or institutional review was obtained, as data were anonymized and derived from voluntary public disclosures. Dosages and regimens were as reported by individuals, without standardization. Outcomes were qualitatively assessed based on patient narratives, focusing on time to improvement and extent of clearance.

Results

Thirteen cases are detailed below, demonstrating variable but predominantly positive responses to ivermectin and/or fenbendazole.

No adverse events were reported in these testimonials.

Discussion

These cases suggest that ivermectin and fenbendazole may exert anti-inflammatory effects beneficial in psoriasis, potentially through modulation of immune pathways or antiparasitic actions addressing underlying triggers. Ivermectin inhibits nuclear factor-kappa B and cytokine production, while fenbendazole may disrupt microtubule function in hyperproliferative cells. The rapid onset of improvement (days to weeks) contrasts with conventional therapies, which often require months.

Limitations include reliance on self-reports, lack of diagnostic confirmation, variable dosing, and absence of controls. Selection bias toward positive outcomes is inherent in social media data. Future research should involve prospective, randomized trials to assess efficacy, optimal dosing (e.g., 6-12 mg ivermectin daily, fenbendazole combinations), safety, and mechanisms.
